Next week is National Pyjama Day!!! The aim of the day is to raise as much funds as possible for The Pyjama Foundation's Love of Learning Program which is offered to children in foster care. Currently there are approximately 9,000 children in the foster care system in Queensland alone. The Pyjama Foundation's Love of Learning Program is a one-on-one mentoring scheme where volunteers are recruited, screened, trained and matched with a child in care.
Together, the mentor, called a "Pyjama Angel" and child spend time together each week (for up to an hour a week) reading, writing, and focusing on educational based games - with the goal of improving the child's learning and life trajectory. Without support and early intervention, many children in foster care go through a cycle of disadvantage; many kids in care don't end up finishing school and can either end up homeless, unemployed, a new parent or enter the juvenile justice system.
Thursday 25th July 2019 we will be having a bake sale where we will be selling various items to help raise some much needed funds. We are hoping to raise $300 which we can then match through Suncorp’s Brighter Futures. Please feel free to bring an item to share such as a cake, savory dish or even something you specialize in and help raise additional funds. There will also be a raffle on the day with some AMAZING prizes on offer. Friday 26 July 2019 we will also be offering a drink trolley where you will be able to celebrate the funds we have raised for a gold coin donation.
By improving the learning skills of these vulnerable children, The Pyjama Foundation is making a positive, life-long impact. Whether they want to grow up to be an astronaut or a doctor. The Pyjama Foundation is there to help them reach their full potential by assisting them with their learning, and by providing consistent love and support. With a little confidence and encouragement, and our support, who knows what they can achieve
